Good Girl Books is a women-owned bookstore and cultural space designed for the intellectually curious and socially engaged. Located on the ground floor of a mixed-use building in Mar Vista, Los Angeles, the 2,000 square-foot project brings together a thoughtfully curated bookstore with a café, establishing a neighborhood anchor centered on literature, community, and daily ritual.

The plan is organized around two primary zones. At its core, a long, linear island anchors the bookstore as both point of sale and central display. Along the adjacent corner, a generous counter and flexible seating area - operated by Dayglow Coffee - activates the space throughout the day, supporting a seamless overlap between reading, gathering, and café culture. A built-in pop-up stage is subtly integrated to host readings, performances, and events, allowing the space to shift fluidly between quiet browsing and collective engagement. Support spaces, including restrooms, storage, and delivery access, are discreetly located at the rear.

Materially, the interior is defined by warm wood surfaces and custom millwork that wrap the space in a sense of quiet continuity. Floor-to-ceiling modular shelving lines the perimeter, forming an immersive field of books and objects, while larger apertures carve out moments for artwork, rare volumes, and featured displays—creating a rhythm of discovery throughout.

Accents in deep reds and earthy tones—drawn from Good Girl Books’ identity—mark key areas for gathering and pause. The result is a space that is both refined and accessible: a contemporary bookstore shaped by a strong point of view, and a platform for women-led programming, cultural exchange, and neighborhood life.
